My name is Sarah Prendergast, and I live at Koinonia Farm, an intentional Christian community in soutwest Georgia. My husband Brendan and I moved here from Cincinnati, OH, where both of us were raised. Our daughters Ida (5) and Kellan (3) are fiery little redheads with lots of energy and curiosity.
Brendan and I are Stewards at Koinonia, which means that we have committed to living our lives here, raising our children, and seeing what God has in store for us on this 570 acres of his kingdom.
My work here at the farm is in hospitality. I welcome and attempt to coordinate several thousand visitors a year, so y’all come and spend a day or two with us! Visitors participate in the daily life of the community and are welcome to join in our shared life of prayer, work, study, service and fellwoship.
Brendan’s work is on the farm, and he’s sharing his passion for permaculture with all of us. We keep livestock including cows, chickens, pigs, geese, goats, ducks, turkeys and rabbits. We also have lots of yummy fruits and vegetables grown right here in our gardens and orchards.
We love living here at Koinonia, and with new people coming through every week, there is never a dull moment. If you want to learn more about Koinonia and what we do, visit our website, or stop by for a tour.
I started this blog because I was having ideas that were too big to just think about late at night, and I wanted to share them with more than just my small circle of friends. I hope you find something helpful, or something that challenges you. I consider this to be an opening for dialogue, so feel free to leave me a comment and let me know what your experience has been.
Thanks for reading!
I too thank you for your words and inspiration. I relate to so much of your story, and am probably at the stage you were in college. I’m afraid of commitment, of being completely honest, and cushion everyday anxiety with drugs and alcohol. I remember meeting you and your husband at Koinonia and glimpsing the reality that it is possible to live with intention, community, and to stop destructive behaviors. I welcome any advice or wisdom you have to offer.
Thanks for sharing:)
Hi Sarah:
A “google search” on “What does love require” took me to your blog – which I found tremendously helpful for the search – but also inspirational, and have subscribed.
I’m also from Cincinnati – raised there until I went to college/seminary – and my parents are still there.
thanks for your thoughts.
Blessings to you and the Koinonia community.
